Resumen:
Spinel-containing refractory castables are widely known due to their outstanding slag corrosion resistance. Nevertheless, fine spinel containing castables might increase the corrosion resistance, as other matrix compounds would affect their overall performance. In this context, a systemic evaluation of the matrix compounds was carried out considering: the binder source (calcium aluminate cement or hydratable alumina), the fumed silica addition and the spinel incorporation method (in situ or preformed). As an outcome, guidelines to increase the corrosion performance were attained, based on thermodynamic evaluation, physical and chemical parameters of the castable compositions.in situ or preformed).
