Rheology of nanosilica dispersions in methacrylate monomers

The aim of this work was to study the rheological behavior of suspensions prepared with nano-sized silica and methacrylate monomers used in dental restorative composites. The monomers used to prepare suspensions were a UDEMA and a mixture of Bis-GMA/TEGDMA (BisTEG) 70:30. The filler used was pyrogenic silica Aerosil OX 50, Degussa, particle size 50 nm. Aerosil was modified with organic molecules, with the aim of improving the dispersion of the filler in the resins.
