Resumen:
Polymers containing azobenzene moieties have been intensively investigated for their unique photoresponsive properties. A variety of photoinduced responses have been observed for azo polymers, such as phase transition, chromophore orientation and surface relief grating formation. The photoresponse of the polymers is based on cis/trans photoisomerization of azobenzene groups and is affected by the mobility of the groups and any supramolecular order of the polymer. In this study, the photoinduced behaviour of the polymers is investigated in terms of dichroism and birefringence for two different epoxy based azo polymers: epoxy-isocianate and epoxy-acid. A push-pull azo dye, Disperse Orange 3 (DO3), was selected as a photosensitive molecule.
